Q: If
you are not gay Why Are You
Supporting Gay Rights?
A: Do
I have to be a person of color, to support racial equality? Do I
have to be a woman to support reproductive rights and oppose forced
motherhood? What
religion do I have to be in order to support
religious freedom.
The issue is far bigger and much more complex than
simply gay rights? After World War
II, German Protestant Pastor, Martin Niemoller, a Holocaust
survivor, phrased the sentiment the best way I have ever heard.
Let me share his words with you:
They came for the Communists, and I
didn't object -
For I wasn't a Communist;
They came for the Socialists, and I didn't object -
For I wasn't a Socialist;
They came for the labor leaders, and I didn't object -
For I wasn't a labor leader;
They came for the Jews, and I didn't object -
For I wasn't a Jew;
Then they came for me -
And there was no one left to object.
The
quote below is from Pastor Martin Niemoeller" as he
spoke before the United
States Congressional on 14 October
1968. They appear in the Congressional record on
page 31636:
When
Hitler attacked the Jews I was not a Jew, therefore I was not
concerned. And when Hitler attacked the Catholics,
I was not a Catholic, and therefore, I was not
concerned. And when Hitler attacked the
unions and industrialists, I was not a member of the unions
and I was not concerned. Then, Hitler attacked me
and the Protestant church -- and there was nobody left to be
concerned.

Here
are two more quotes that I recommend you read::
You
must be the change you wish to see in the world.

Mahatma Gandhi
Throughout
history, it has been the inaction of those who could have acted; the
indifference of those who should have known better; the silence of the voice of
justice when it mattered most; that has made it possible for evil to triumph.

We
also recommend that you read the section on this site regarding what the Christian Bible says about how
to treat others.˛
Not one of the passages we quote (nor any passages we don't quote) makes any
distinction regarding what our fellow human beings
hold as his or her sexual preference.
