Bigotry
Is Alive and Well:
The
following section is taken from an interview with
an angel of light pretending to be none other than
"The Devil." himself.
(Ref: An Interview
with "The Devil"²)
.

.
Big
D You cannot have freedom of
religion if you do not
also
have freedom from
religion.
T.L.C.
We were discussing gay and lesbian
rights. Where does religion come into this.
Big
D Have you noticed
who is on the anti-gay-rights side of this
controversy?
T.L.C.
No, Who?
Big
D The
same people who are promoting forced motherhood ²
(anti-abortion)
**
The same people who are still supporting George
Bush as he destroys the economy and the middle
class with excessive deficit
financing.²
**
The same people who oppose human cloning and
stem cell
research.²
**
The same people who are promoting the death
penalty.²
**
The same people who are doing their best to
destroy the separation of church and sate and in
its place establish a Christian
Theocracy.²
**
The same people who refuse to see that The
Rapture ²
is a religiously inspired con game that has turned into a huge, mind-bending cash-cow.
**
The same people who deny evolution and demand the
Christian Creationism ² be taught in public
schools
T.L.C.
So you are saying the leaders of the conservative faction of
Christianity are the main people behind the
anti-gay movement.
Big
D Yes, and religious intolerance
goes all the way back to the pilgrims.
If you’ve
studied American history, you will remember the first settlers (after the Native
Americans) came to this country to escape religious persecution.
T.L.C.
It goes way back beyond that, back to the
origins of Christianity, but let's stay on track.
Big
D They came to America to
avoid religious persecution, but instead,
they simply brought their own brand of religious
intolerance with them.
T.L.C.
How long were they here before they were
doing the same thing they came here to get away
from?
Big
D Not long. In those days the ultra
conservative Christians were called Puritans. We still have the
fundamentalist Christians peddling their own version of the age-old,
religious game called
"one-way-my-way." Only today, we don’t call
it persecution, we call it bigotry. Some
of the anti-gay
promoters are still supporting racial discrimination, and many
are either completely ignoring the Eastern Religions or calling them demonic.
I've heard that some diehards are even calling Catholics demonic.
The conservative fundamentalist faction of Christianity are
declaring themselves and morally superior and religiously
superior. Many of them are still acting as if they are
gender-superior and racially superior.
For those interested, there's much more.²
T.L.C.
Are you saying the anti-gay
leaders are bigots?
Big
D Absolutely not!
T.L.C.
Then what are you doing?
Big
D I’m merely pointing out evidence of behavior.
I'm not making any
of this up. The evidence is telling
you what the fundamentalist Christians are doing
and how they are behaving. What label you put on that behavior is your own judgment, not mine.
But if you want to know if the shoe fits. . .
Big D handed me a copy of
Webster’s Dictionary. He asked me to look up the word bigot.
I took the book, opened to the B’s, found bigot, and then read the
definition out loud.
T.L.C.
“Bigot"
--
A person who holds blindly and
intolerantly to a particular
creed, opinion, etc.” “A
narrow-minded, prejudiced person.”
Big
D Now look up prejudice,
please.
After
a moment of looking, I found prejudice and read the definition out loud.
There were four definitions. I
chose the one that seemed most relevant to our discussion.
T.L.C.
“Prejudice"
--
A judgment or opinion held in disregard of the facts that
contradict it.”
Big
D So in the controversy over
the state-created, civil contract called
"marriage." The anti-gay
leaders are saying that that government contract
is sacred. Do you know of any other
government contracts that are considered
sacred? What makes it sacred?
Can a government contract be sacred? They
are claiming it sacred
in disregard of the facts that
contradict it.”
T.L.C.
Wait a
minute. Let me look up the word, "Sacred."
"Sacred"
-- 1) Consecrated to
or belonging to a god or deity; holy;
2) Connected to religion or religious
rights; 3) Regarded with the same
respect and reverence accorded holy
things.
There,
they've got their hook. Marriage is regarded
as sacred.
Big
D Not so fast.
They can regard anything they want to be sacred,
but what about those who don't hold a state legal
contract as sacred? Do they have any
rights? Do they have to honor fundamentalist
Christian sacredness? Hindus regard
cows as sacred. When was the
last time a fundamentalist Christian honored
Hindu sacredness or, for that matter, the
sacredness of anyone else's
religion? Give us the
definition of holy.
T.L.C.
"Holy" -- 1) dedicated
to religious use; belonging to or coming
from God; consecrated; sacred.
Big
D It looks like we've come
full circle.
T.L.C.
“Can we look up the word, "hypocrite?"
Big
D Of course.
T.L.C.
“ Hypocrite?" "A
pretender. A person who pretends to be what he is not; a
person who pretends to be better than he
really is, or to be pious, virtuous, etc. Hypocrisy -- To play a role; a pretense of virtue, piety, etc."
Big
D If you add the fact that
they are acting in opposition
to the instructions in their own
Bible's instructions,² that
leaves our anti gay leaders with quite a
trilogy. I appears like the three
words prejudiced,
hypocrite, and bigot have a
single home.
